I Am In The Hospital Do Too Pneumonia Pulmonary Hypertension

Question: I am in the hospital do too pneumonia pulmonary hypertension and Right heart dislation and failure. My last echo in March was 85-90. In August they were 207-112, last week 63

I am being treated with oxygen 2.0 for now 24/7 for the lung and heart. For the pneumonia antibiotic ampicillin 250! Mg decatron steroid 4 times a day

My regular heart blood pressure has jumped from 99 to 159:83 in 4 dsys I got diarrrhs abd my eyes are blurry now too. My blood sugars have at fasting is 104 after 170s.

Is the medication causing all this ? My kidney functions a r ok and my liver. I was low on potassium so they gave me some in a IV

Strokes run in my family. Should I be worried ?

I also have cancer in my submingular gland but can’t hsvd chemo or sugery till pulmonary pressure come down. My Carotid blood flow is good and no blockage. The tumor is connected to the tumor so its a dangerous operation

1) The ampicillin can cause diarrhea, but if you do not have blood in your stools or bad abdominal cramps, you can continue with ampicillin. Try some loperamide meanwhile to counter the diarrhea.

2) A family history of stroke indicates a propensity for cardiovascular disease. This is something to talk to your own doctor about, e.g. in regards of lifestyle factors (smoking, exercise, diet, alcohol). Blood tests for diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, and an ECG can also help quantify your risk of stroke.

3) There are many potential causes of pulmonary hypertension, and it requires a thorough clinical examination by a cardiologist or pulmonologist to determine this. Depending on cause, there are different treatment options that may help so that you can have surgery or oncological treatment for your cancer.

Further, an assessment of your pulmonary hypertension makes most sense when you are over your pneumonia. If your hypertension is idiopathic, first line of treatment is usually oxygen, diuretics, and anticoagulants. But it is important to know how you have been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, if there is an underlying cause (COPD, sarcoidosis, vasculitis, etc.) or if it truly is idiopathic.
