Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2020
Question: I am in the nursing field, and have a bundle branch block I was diagnosed with a few years ago. I am worried about the situation with the coronavirus and being directly involved with patients with it given that it is highly contagious and I have a heart condition. Is it significantly more dangerous for me to continue working with this condition?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that there is no reason to panic considering your clinical situation.

As long as you have no cardiomyopathy (such as myocardial hypertrophy or heart chamber dilation) based on the cardiac ultrasound, there you are not at an increased risk compared to other patients without this ECG finding.

Theoretically, you should consider more seriously your arterial hypertension as it is a known risk factor for a poor prognosis in patients affected by this virus infection.

For this reason, I would recommend performing a cardiac ultrasound in order to exclude cardiomyopathy and closely monitor your blood pressure values.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
