Question: I am on blood pressure meds (losartan/Hotz 100 - 12.5 mg. I am a 70 yr old male, 168 lbs, 5'8" and excerise regularly. My normal blood pressure reads in the 120/75 range. I take my blood pressure once a week. My last week reading was 122/76.
When I took my pressure this morning around 11 am my reading was 160/90. I retook it this afternoon at 5:00 pm and it was 171/90. This is the first time I had a reading that high. I am going to see my pcp in 2 two days. Am I ok to wait until then. I will continue to take my readings every few hours until I get to see him.

Brief Answer:
It's better to seek early opinion

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Sorry for late reply...
Usually, it's not of immediate threat until bp is more than 170-180 especially if asymptomatic. However, if your readings start going above 180 then its become an emergency.
So, it's better to seek early help rather than waiting for 2 days. However, if bp goes down then you may wait. Another option is, if you have any other antihypertensive available like amlodipine/ torsemide etc then additional medicine may be taken along with losartan.
You importantly continue to monitor bp and avoid heavy activities which would further increase bp. Also, have less of salt, avoid too much coffee.
So, monitor bp and bp crosses 180 then seek urgent help.
Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.
