Brief Answer:
Low sodium diet.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I have gone through your query and understood your concern.
Weight gain is one of the most common side effects produced by corticosteroid therapy.
Much of your weight gain will be due to water retention. But over time, your body fat may increase as well.
Corticosteroids tend to increase your appetite, prompting you to eat more than you need.
The good news is that the side effect of weight gain tends to reverse when the dosage of prednisone is taken below 10 mg/day. The fluid retention and increased appetite will also decrease as the prednisolone is tapered down and discontinued.
YOu should know that weight loss can take months to a year.
Diuretics are not the solution for weight gain while on Prednisolone.
To control weight gain on prednisolone i suggest to Reduce sodium intake.(high-sodium foods contribute to water retention) and choose foods that are sources of healthy fats calcium and potassium.
So,a low sodium diet, potassium rich foods ,lean proteins and drinking a lot of cups of water every day can help you to prevent over eating and lose weight in your circumstances.
Hope this is helpful.
