I Am Seeking Opinion From An Endocrinologist For My Dad Symptoms
I recently came across a medical podcast by an Endocriniologist who suggested such symptoms are seen when ppl have Insulin Resistance or are in Pre Diabectic stage. So, I would like to understand the tests to be conducted that can help ascertain the issue.
From a recent General Physician chat I was suggested to het HbA1C, FBS, PPBS, Thyroid Profile, renal Function, Lipid Profile, Serum Electrolytes, Serum PSA tests - I am rechecking before getting these done because access to Diagnostic tests and Endocrinologists are limited in the small town where my father resides.
Thanks in advance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
Yes some skin conditions are seen in insulin resistance like diabetic dermopathy and acanthosis nigricans. These are usually diagnosed by a doctor and do not require any specific testing. You can upload a photo of the rash for me to review.
Since he is eating more sugary foods than usual, you may want to get him diagnosed for diabetes. The tests mentioned by your doctor (HbA1C, FBS, PPBS, Thyroid Profile, renal Function, Lipid Profile, Serum Electrolytes, Serum PSA tests) are basic and should be easily available in most laboratories. I would also add routine urinalysis, liver function tests. If all the tests are not available, then fasting blood sugar (FBS) is the basic test required to diagnose diabetes.
Hope this helps.
