if nerve pain due to diabetes, there are meds that can help

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Diabetes can sometimes be difficult to manage but with help from your doctor and possibly a nutritionist, you should be able to control it.

Diabetes can be a source of pain if it is uncontrolled for a long period of time and it has affected the nerves, this is diabetic neuropathy.
In diabetic neuropathy, though the pain can occur at any time, it tends to be worse at night.

In addition to controlling the blood sugars, there are medications that can help with nerve related pain eg amitriptyline, tegretol, gabapentin, lyrica, duloxetine.
These medications have many uses including helping with nerve related pain.

You can combine one of these with a normal pain medication such as advil or aleve etc

In terms of the diabetes, this is controlled with diet, activity and medication.
Reducing the use of certain sugars (eg sodas, fruit drinks, desserts) and reducing the use of some carbs (reduced portions of pastas, rice, potatoes etc), increasing vegetables/salads and protein.
Replace sodas/juices with the low or no sugar versions.

Initially control one reading at a time, meaning concentrate on control the fasting blood sugar first, when this is controlled, concentrate on a different reading.
Fasting blood sugar should be 70 to 130 mg/dl.

If the blood sugar cannot be controlled with diet changes and using medication consistently then the medication may need to be altered.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
