Question: I am suffering with cervical spondylitis since last 2 years. initially it was resolved with simple exercise and now symptomps increased and pain starts from neck , shoulders, and up to left hand elbow. Doctors (orthopaedic surgeon) suggested MRI and as per tghis report there is diffuse posterior disc herniation and biforaminal disc protrusion at C5-C6 intervertebral disc.

The traction exercise was followed for almost one month and as suggested by doctors, a course of steroids injections were also taken but there is no relief in pain till now. Doctors now suggested to go for ASDF surgery. Just I want to know whether this is the final step of remedy or there is another remedy for relieving the pain.
Pain is severe and unbearable, please suggest.

Brief Answer:
Surgery is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen the attached reports. There is a significant nerve root compression that is causing the symptoms. Since the pain is extreme and has not resolved with traction, it is best to go with the surgical treatment. Even after the surgery you will have to do regular cervical isometric exercises to prevent any relapse as this is an age related degenerative problem and can regress again. Till then oral muscle relaxants and medicines like pregabalin and methylcobalamin can help upto some extent.
I hope this answers your query.
