Question: I am taking Nitrofurantin for a bacterial bladder infection, after the 3rd pill I began having terrible itching is there anything I can do for the nearly unbearable itching?

Your symptoms seem to be due to an allergic reaction to Nitrofurantoin...First and foremost, take an antiallergic (Tablet BENADRYL 25 mg twice daily or LEVOCETIRIZINE 10mg once daily), you may feel a bit sleepy after this, so please don't drive or engage into any strenuous physical activities for the time being.

Apply some soothing aloe-vera lotion all over the body, perhaps take a cold shower also...This should control this within a while...

It's advisable not to take any more dosage of the Nitrofurantoin and inform your doctor for a different regimen of antibiotics...
