I Am Trying To Make The Best Decision.. I Need

Question: I am trying to make the best decision.. I need to get some squamous cell carcinoma removed off my face.. I elected to go with the Mohs method to remove the tumor.. one doctor can do this on Nov 12 the better doctor who is more skilled with reconstruction can do it Dec 2nd.. is this something that can wait a few weeks longer without it affecting the size of the tumor? I really want it out ASAP but with the least amount of scarring!! Pls advise..I have had this lesion since oct 1st .. it came up rather quickly on a spot below my nose.. thanks so much!!

Regarding SCC
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your concern.
MOHS surgery is the ideal way to remove a squamous cell carcinoma in lip region. Since cosmetic outcome is good with as little tissue as possibly removed during surgery, I would rather suggest you to go for surgery as soon as possible but then just 2-3 weeks is hardly going to make much difference, especially in a small sized, well differentiated SCC, since it is not very aggressive locally.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

One doctor will do the mohs and then the ear nose and throat doctor..who is very skilled in reconstruction will do the stitching and closing the wound..the only bad thing is the Mohs Surgery is on Monday and the reconstruction surgery is on Tuesday so I will have an open wound overnight until the next afternoon .. will that invite more infection? How deep do they usually have to go for a well differentiated scc .. will this cause my Smile to look crooked? It is not on my lip but about halfway between my nose and lip.. is this a common area for scc

Regarding SCC
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
The wound would be covered by a dressing so I don't think there would be infection. With MOHS surgery they would go upto the level where it is all clear i.e mid dermal or subcutaneous level. The aim of MOHS surgery is maximum tissue conservation along with the least chance of relapse. It has a high cure rate compared to standard excision. I don't think the surgery itself would affect your smile unless there is nerve injury which is less likely with MOHS compared to standard excision.
Take care. All the best.
