Question: I broke my finger April 21. I went to Urgent Care and they took an x-ray and showed me where the crack in my bone is. They put my finger in a splint. How long do I need to wear it for? Also, when does the bruising go away? My finger is still blue

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

Usually In case of finger fracture splint has to be kept for around 4 to 6 weeks.

Bruising may be due to finger fracture. Usually bruises will disappear in two weeks. It will turn from blue to greenish yellow, then light brown and finally will disappear in around 15 days. For that there is no need of any treatment.

After the splint is removed you may require a repeat X Ray to confirm the healing of the bone after orthopedician consultation and you may feel some sort of stiffness in the finger which will gradually decrease by doing physical therapy.

In case of increased pain you can take tablet acetaminophen 500 mg three times a day.
