you mentioned that 80 mg nexium twice a day(total 160 mg a day) caused mild kidney problems after 10 years. I have read that long term usage of nexium also causes bone loss. Please give your thoughts on what dosage creates a bone loss problem and over what time frame.if you can also refer a good study, that will be great. Thanks.

1) Most problems arise only with long term use. What is long term?
2)I could not see any reference to dosage.What is high dosage.
3) You mentioned that 160 mg nexium a day can create kidney problem after 10 years.I did not see that in this reference.

1)Long term means minimum 5 years of continuous use.
2)Dosage of Esomeprazole 80 mg twice daily are very high and used very rarely and for short period of time.
Optimal dosage are 40 or 20 mg twice.
3)That is some thing in general....like esomeprazole in very high dosage (that is obviously 160 mg as 80 mg per day is optimal dose) can cause damage.
The same is true with other medicines like Rabeprazole etc(At maximum possible doses on long term usage they cause toxicities).
You can scroll up the site of NCBI for proton pump inhibitors etc. Hundreds of researches as well as papers are there.

Sir, these numbers are all variable.
None of the theories would write down or explain what is maximum or minimum time duration etc plus what drug should be used.
Frankly speaking, choosing the salt plus duration all depends on the discretion of the doctor and the drug you are using.
If you were asking for a painkiller I would have said maximum duration is 2weeks.
If it were any corticosteroid it's generally 1 week.
If it were a cholesterol-lowering medicine (and the patient is having a heart problem) the duration is life long.
These are all variables no research or publication of the medical books would provide this information.
Even I'm taking Rabeprazole for more than 10 years personally and all my tests are ok.
So hope you would understand these are all variable parameters.
