I Constantly Feel As Though I Have Drainage Down The

Question: I constantly feel as though I have drainage down the back of my throat and I am repeatedly 'hard swallowing' throughout the day to clear it but t doesn't seem to ever let up. i have also been choking almost every night when I am sleeping - I wake up coughing and gasping for breath with the feeling that something went down the wrong pipe. I am losing hours of sleep. This also happens throughout the day less frequently when i drink anything, I have to be especially mindful. The drainage feels like I would imagine waterboarding is like and it affects my ability to speak as i am constantly stopping to swallow or gasping for air to the point my voice is muffled or raspy. i have also noticed that I have a slight wheezing sometimes when I take a deep breath and i often have coughing spells especially after I have a good laugh. I have noticed the wheezing and coughing spells for about 3 months and the choking started about a month ago and has gotten worse. Please help.

Brief Answer:
Get done PFT.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of asthma is more likely.
Along with your current medicines, you need to take inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone).
Also start montelukast (anti allergic) and fexofenadine (antihistamine) combination.
First get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
It is must for the diagnosis of asthma. PFT will also tell you about severity and treatment is based on severity only.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
