I Dislocated My Elbow And Was Given A Pain Med.

Question: I dislocated my elbow and was given a pain med. After taking it an hour later I noticed I felt unwell. I currently have a fever of 103.1 and am very shaky/ weak. Is this normal?

I understand your concern.

The fever is not a normal symptom of the dislocated elbow.

The dislocated elbow may cause pain, swelling, numbness, weakness, or decreased range of motion.

The fever is commonly related to an infection and may require the treatment with antibiotics.

I recommend Augmentin 625 mg twice a day for and week.

It is a prescription medication, so you should consult your doctor before his treatment.

Meanwhile, I suggest using anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen three tablets a day for the fever.

I also suggest to use a brace or a splint to reduce the movement of the elbow.
