I Do Minimal Activity And I Sweat Excessively Everywhere. I

Question: I do minimal activity and I sweat excessively everywhere. I am a nurse and work at the bedside. I sweat so much I literally drip while just doing an assessment. I started sweating at the age of 42 and assumed it was hot flashes, but I have been to hormone specialist and have taken many medications such as, Estrogen patches, Effexor, Black Cohash, Tums, Hormone creams made at Smart Pharmacy, and powders. A student nurse told me about her hand and feet sweating, hyperhydrosis and she uses an electrical device to treat herself successfully. My problem is I sweat everywhere, any solutions? I have been to my primary physician, Cardiologist, Oncologist/Hematologist, ENT, Dermatologist, and Gynecologist, all my tests are within normal limits.

Brief Answer:
Probably hyperhidrosis, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms seem to be related to hyperhidrosis.

I suggest you do the following examinations to confirm the diagnosis:
-a complete blood count and
-a urinalysis
-Thermoregulatory sweat tests

If the diagnosis is confirmed there are several options of treatment.

Some of the suggested treatment can be:

-Prescribed antiperspirants, you should consult with your doctor about this treatment.

-Anticholinergic drugs are also recommended.
You can try Bentyl, which is an over the counter medication. You can take it daily.

- Iontophoresis is also recommended. It uses an electrical current and is generally a safe procedure. You can consult a dermatologist about this treatment.

These therapies are effective in the entire body.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
