Question: I drank heavily the night before my blood work (from 4-11) but I did fast for 12 hours (11pm-11am). My AST and ALT numbers were very high. Could this be because of the drinking I did the night before?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
yes,

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Yes, the rise in the liver enzymes can occur when there is recent insult to the liver.

A heavy dose of alcohol or fatty food can increase the enzymes transiently, which come back to normal within a week or so.

Get the test repeated after week to see whether or not its transient.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.

Regards,

Thanks

My AST was 83 and ALT was 120. How bad are those numbers? I’ve been drinking 6-8 beers a day for 5 years. I’ve quit completely now and having tests done again in 4 weeks.
