I Fell On My Left Side While Driving A Motorcycle

default
Posted on Sat, 20 Apr 2019
Question: I fell on my left side while driving a motorcycle (I'm 74) about 2 weeks ago. Since then, I have had a sharp pain on my left chest just under the breast when I roll over in bed and sometimes when I first lay down. I have full movement of my arm with only a little discomfort and can breathe in deeply without pain. Yesterday I went zip-lining and cave tubing with my grandchildren and there were no pains or anything unusual. The only other symptom is that if I lie on my left side, I occasionally feel something like something is "bumping" when I breathe in. I am in Belize Central XXXXXXX so getting to my regular doctor is not possible for several months. There are facilities on the mainland with MRI, x-ray and similar diagnostic equipment, but I'm hoping this is more like a muscle injury and not a broken or cracked rib.

Brief Answer:
Likely to be a muscle pull or injury.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The symptoms that you have described are more likely to be due to a muscle pull or injury. Any crack in the rib causes a pain on deep breathing. This is likely to subside with cold compress and application of XXXXXXX XXXXXXX in 2 weeks. Avoid all the painful activities and avoid lying on the left side. In case the deep pain persists or there is a visible swelling in the area then do consider going for an MRI scan for detailed diagnosis.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
