I Found This Boney Lump Behind My Ear Back In

Question: I found this boney lump behind my ear back in November and went to an urgent care. They told me it was a lymph node and if it didn’t go away to come back. It was a busy month and I forgot about it. Last week I just found the lump again and started to get nervous as it’s still there. There’s no change in size since November and it’s not painful. I went to a GP last week to get it checked and they told me it was possibly a cyst and did not feel like cancer. I have terrible health anxiety and am not feeling reassured as I don’t understand why it’s only on one side, why it’s so hard and why it won’t go away. The location is behind the ear, on the neck above what I believe is the mastoid process.

Detailed Answer:
Hii. Welcome to the health care services. Its not dat every swelling is a lympu node. It can be a cyst, sebaceous cyst, lipoma, dermiod. So don't panic. Start a course of antibiotic augmentin. Most often lymph nodes get enlarged on any viral or bacterial infection. So it can regress with antibiotic if it is ingective in origin
Still you need to consult an ent surgeon. He need to palpate the swelling and if needed should advice a FNAC ( fine neeedle aspiration cytology). Generally sebaceous cyst, lipoma get diagnosed clinically and doesn't need FNAC. Do a ultrasound neck to find any other obvious swelling. If swelling doesnt look like cyst or lipoma then he should do an endoscopy of larynx and nose to find any disease. By getting FNAC , usg and endoscopy report, the final diagnosis can be made. But don't panic the most common swelling are the cyst and lipoma. So get examined by an ent surgeon, start antibiotic and follow up with the report. Please review if you have any queries.
