I Got My Hand Caught In The Hinge Side Of

Question: I got my hand caught in the hinge side of a door 6/28. X-ray negative. Still having burning pain between 2nd and third digit. Sometimes numbness up inside of index finger. Pain second MCP joint when lifting anything heavy. Just had negative MRI right hand. What could be causing the pain? It’s been 4.5 months since injury. I’ve been having hand therapy. ROM and strength is improving but the burning/pain is still present and very slowly getting less
Brief Answer:
Can be due to nerve injury or compression.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
A burning pain between 2nd and 3rd finger without any apparent injury on MRI scan can be due to a nerve injury. It can also cause the numbness. Mild nerve root compression at the level of cervical spine due to spondylosis can also cause such symptoms.
You can start with methylcobalamin supplements after getting the levels checked. Consulting a neurologist will also be helpful.
Hope this answer is helpful.
Any further questions are welcome.

Would nerve injury not be evident on an MRI? Is there anything other than time and vitamin supplements that would be able to help? I don’t think it would be related to neck issue because the area in question is right above the injury site.
Brief Answer:
Minor nerve injury is difficult to detect.
