I Had 7 Cocktails Between 12:30 Pm And 2:30 Pm
the drinks were relatively light. approximstely 1.5 oz bourbon per drink. the quantity just got away from me. I usually have 2-4. I feel totally fine now at 9:15
so the alcohol is sufficiently out of my system that taking the xanax at 11:00 pm was ok?

Brief Answer:
When combined cause CNS depression
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Usually it takes around 8 hours for alcohol to really decrease in concentration in blood. In habitual drinkers it takes a longer time for alcohol to be out of system. Alcohol slows the clearance of xanax.
Mostly it was ok to take xanax at 11pm. But problem is that the alcohol effects may stay for longer duration and xanax is also a CNS depressant, so their effects can combine and your may feel too drowsy and uneasy.
In my opinion, it should take a day or two to recover completely from their combined effects.
If you are feeling fine now, then the whole episode is over.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

So I don’t drink every day but I do take sleeping meds every day. My question is how long it takes for alcohol to dissipate. I had a doctor once tell me about 1 hour per drink from the time I started drinking. I just want to be safe and NOT overlap the alcohol with the meds. Thanks for your help so far. Please respond and we can close this out. Tyia.
Brief Answer:
The doctor was correct
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
OK I am going into details of alcohol excretion.
Alcohol is eliminated from body at a constant amount per hour. More one drinks, more it accumulates in body. The doctor was correct. Body eliminates amount of 300 ml of beer in one hour. So you may do your calculation for cocktails taking beer as a constant. Different drinks have different concentrations of alcohol. If someone had 7 beers, it would take 7 hours for it to eliminate. So if you had cocktails that had similar concentration of alcohol as beer, then 7 cocktails would have taken 7 hours to eliminate. your last drink was at 2:30pm, it would have been out by 9:30 pm.
