I Had Kenalog Steroids Injected Into Gums 3 Days Ago Now Its Causing Burning And Tingling
Question: I had Kenalog steroids injected into gums 3 days ago and having some burning and tingling at corners of the mouth and inside the cheek. (Oral surgeon injected the gums, however, not the cheek) Just wondering if this is normal and if you've heard of this after effect before and will it decrease with time?
Brief Answer:
Your symptoms may be due to trigeminal neuralgia.
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Tingling and burning sensation at corners of the mouth and inside the cheek may not be related to the steroid injection given on gums. It might probably be due to the trigeminal neuralgia itself.
You can take tab. Pregabalin 75mg twice daily for 1 week.
If your sensation still persists, then you can go to the same oral surgeon to know if it was an after effect of steroid injection or you can consult a neurophysician for treatment of trigeminal neuralgia.
Hope i have answered your question. Please let me know if you need any further assistance. Thank you. Take care.
Thanks.

Doctor, thank u for your answers. Very informative. One last question. I know you're not a dentist but u know how this steroid works. Since the steroid injection into the gum (one week ago) a bridge I have now is falling out where it stayed affixed in place prior to steroid. Could this have caused the gum to swell and this is why bridge is now falling out and if so, is this something temporary? Thanks so much.
Brief Answer:
It might be due to gum swelling but I'm not sure.
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thank you for choosing healthcare magic. Bridge falling out of place might be due to gum swelling. But I don't have a clear idea about that. I'm sorry. Please do consult the dentist for a detailed answer. Thank you. Please let me know if you need any further assistance. Take care.
