Brief Answer:
Early detection is key

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Ask a doctor panel.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Since you already had the ? unprotected sex now there is no question of primary prevention (prevention of any illness). Now the key is secondary prevention which means early detection and treatment. Ask your wife to be mindful of any symptoms of STD and report them to a health professional in timely manner. The symptoms include lower abdominal pain, fever, bumps on the exposed area (lips, vagina), abnormal vaginal discharge among others.

In addition a battery of STD related tests can be conducted after two to four weeks as most STD disorder have incubation period ranging from days to weeks.

I hope this answers you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
