Brief Answer:
Sometimes cortisone shot bruising of the skin

Detailed Answer:
Hi. Sometimes cortisone shot bruising of the skin as it may degenerate the collagen tissues of the body and make the skin thinner. So it helps in visualizing the blood vessels lying below the skin. So it's better to avoid long-term steroid and try for other options.

Cortisone also causes increased motility of the gastrointestinal tract, maybe due to its hyperglycaemic effect. This increased sugar level will cause a laxative effect. So better to drink more fluids so that it will decrease the sugar concentration in the blood.

Another thing. On the same day I had the cortisone shot I ate a bag of sugar free gummie bears. Had an intense laxative effect and I had diarreah all day. Thought that was important to note.

I don't think I was clear. I have never had hives before. The only 2 things that were different for me before the outbreak of the hives was: I had a cortisone shot in my shoulder rotator cuff to reduce some pain. That same day I ate an entire bag of sugar free gummie bears (the package said it contained Malitol which in large consumption could have a laxitive effect. Which it did. The large painful hives showed up the day after these 2 occurrences and are still coming. The hives that have subsided have left purple bruising all over my skin. My ? is could the cortisone shot have caused the outbreak of hives which I have never had before? or could it have been the Malitol consumption? You are saying a coritsone shot could be responsible for the buising I am having but we have not addressed the hives
