I Had A Cystoscopy Showing Enlarged Prostrate Lobes Could The 2nd Abnormal Urinalysis Possibly Be Indicative Of Cancer So Soon After A Negative Ct? What Does Small For Blood Mean?

Question: On 7/28/18 I had a cystoscopy showing enlarged prostrate lobes and a neg urinalysis. I also had a urinalysis 8/7/18 showing abnormal for blood and rbc's indicating small and 0-4 HPF. I had a normal ct urography w/wo contrast in XXXXXXX 2018 of the abdomen. My prostrate showed coarse calcifications and my kidneys had cysts. Could these calcifications be cancer? Could the 2nd abnormal urinalysis possibly be indicative of cancer so soon after a negative ct? What does small for blood mean? Would it be reasonable to do an MRI prior to BPH Urolift procedure that I'm considering? My son had kidney cancer and I have 2 sibs with breast and tongue cancer. Thanks very much!

Brief Answer:
Calcification in prostate does not suggest Cancer of prostate

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .Based on the facts that you have posted you seem to have been diagnosed to have BEP .

I shall be happy if you can post me more details to help me in making precise comments
1) What is the size of the prostate reported on Ultrasound Scanning or CT scan ?
2) Upload report of Urine analysis and Blood issued by the laboratory
3) What is the post void residual urine volume ?
4) Do you have obstructive voiding symptoms like poor flow ,frequency
for urination ,Nocturnal frequency for urination ?
5) Is blood test for PSA done ? if so upload report
6) List of medicines that you have been prescribed

Calcification in prostate is mostly due to chronic infection of prostate and does not signify cancer

The presence of RBC in urine is due to BEP and also due to infection secondary to BEP .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

US shows 4.7 cm prostrate. PVR is 50 ml. I do have voiding symptoms-frequency and poor flow. 1/night void. PSA is 1.19. Cialis, alfuzosin. Unable to upload report. Urinalysis just says Micro-rbc's. 0-4 hpf. The urinalysis is negative for bacteria or signs of infection, only abnormal for blood. Is BEP the same as BHP? Thanks!

Brief Answer:
your BEP CAN BE TREATED WITH MEDICINES No evidence of Cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for feedback.
You have BEP which is common at this age.

Obstructive Voiding symptoms without nocturnal frequency that you have could be treated with medicines that you are taking now .

Since PSA is below 4 there is no possibility of cancer of Prostate No need to go for MRI..

Presence of 0-4 RBC IS NORMAL . Not to be worried about .

Keep monitoring size of prostate by doing Ultrasound Scanning of abdomen and doing Uroflowmetry every six months..

Thanks and Regards
Dr. Patil
