I Had A Lack Of Judgement And Had Unprotected Vaginal
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: I had a lack of judgement and had unprotected vaginal sex with a prostitute, the encounter lasted about 2 mins. I became worried of HIV and has the woman take an oraquick HIV test and she tested negative. I went to a minuteclinic and they recommended i start PEP. I figured I would take the medication just in case and noticed the side effects , particularly XXXXXXX hump... What are my chances of developing XXXXXXX hump in 28 days and is the risk of the side effects of the drug worth considering my scenario?

Also she’s been known to not use condoms regularly, but I did give her an Oraquick HIV test and it came back negative. The test said it’s accurate up to 3 months after HIV infection. So thats my concern, the last 3 months including my 2 minutes of unprotected vaginal sex, also I am uncircumcised. Thanks
Brief Answer:
There exist the risk of HIV infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in "Ask a Doctor".
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Based on your history, having unprotected sexual intercourse with a prostitute (that didn't use condom regulary) plus being uncircumcised you should know that there exist the risk of HIV infection.
It is a good news that she had a negativ result of an Oraquick HIV test but this test is not conclusive.
As you know should do it after 3 months from a risky exposure to get a conclusive result.
So, I advice to take PEP and not to worry about side effects. You should know that the chance to get a XXXXXXX hump after 28 days of ARV therapy is very low and for more this side effects depends from the ARV that you use.
Hope I have answered your query.
Feel free to ask me further.

The AVR I am using is Truvada and Tivicay. Are those high side effects AVR?

Also is this a recommended course for PEP? Truvada + Tivicay, I took them both at the same time, once daily. Is this ok?

Hi doctor, to add to my concerns I’ve read that tivicay can cause immune reconstruction syndrome and cause me to develop an autoimmune disease? Also can this effect my fertility?
I am really scared of the long term side effects of Truvada and Trivicay...

Brief Answer:
Truvada and Tivicay are the firts choice for PEP.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in "Ask a Doctor".
I am sorry for my late response.
The drugs you have taken Truvada and Tivicay are the firts choice for PEP. Usually thay have some mild side effects but very rare severe and not for a long time after 28 days of use.
Truvada could cause XXXXXXX hump, liver and renal problems some times but after a long time of use and not after 28 days.
IRIS as well could be a side effect of this medications but in the HIV positive patient with damaged immunity. You shouldn't worry about fertility in your case.
So, these are not reasons to not use these ARV as a PEP in your situation.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
