I Had A Miscarriage At Home Last Week. I Was

Question: I had a miscarriage at home last week. I was about 7 weeks along. The bleeding has mostly stopped but I'm concerned about infection as I used a menstrual cup the first day (before I learned that was a bad idea). I've noticed a vaginal odor but no abdominal pain or fever. Is this something I should call my ob/gyn about on Thursday when the office reopens or something I should go to urgent care or the ER for?

Brief Answer:
Detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for sharing your health concern with us.

In the current scenario, I would ask you to take the advice of your health care provider for further management. Though it is not an emergency, a proper evaluation for retained products and infection is necessary.

This can be done by a clinical examination followed by a transvaginal/pelvic sonogram and a vaginal/cervical swab. Please do not douche but use mild antiseptic solution to clean the genital area.

Further management can be planned after investigation.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

regards,
Shanti.V.
