I Had A Rib Injury More That 6 Months Ago.

Question: I had a rib injury more that 6 months ago. it was a hard fall. Had an x ray but nothing was found. shortly after started getting pvcs. Both of these started bad anxiety. Cardiologist saw nothing wrong. After bw discovered I'm hormone depleted and in menopause so dr attributes all my symptoms ( pvcs anxiety and poor appetite) to that. I just started buspirone 2 weeks ago as my anxiety is severe. My concern though (and dr google has frightened me) is should i still be having pain from my rib injury after so long? it seems to radiate into my abdomen. Another concern is my lack of appetite. Of course when i google these 2 symptoms it says i have pancreatic cancer!!! FYI had a routine colonoscopy and endoscopy just a month ago and all was good. I'm just fearful this is more than anxiety from what google told me. i saw my dr just yesterday and she still insists its costochondritis. Any thoughts?

Please add painkillers routine dose and trust your doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.

I read carefully your situation and as you explain the situation I can say yes after a rib fracture with the healing process and especially in the first year the patient might feel the pain which might be intermittent by itself.

With the passing of the time, the pain from fracture disappears almost completely. If your doctor thinks this is a costochondritis pain than painkillers such as Ibrufen or Naproxen tables orally for up to two weeks are helpful and relieve the pain.

I strongly recommend you do not consider Google like a doctor. This is not safe neither helpful. You should trust your doctor instead.

Regarding the anxiety, if the current treatment is not working then perhaps discuss with your doctor to substitute it with Escitalopram and wait for the results. In my opinion, the lack of appetite is mostly related to anxiety according to the history you provided.

Hope to have been helpful and don't worry so much.

Regards

Dr.Jolanda
