Question: I had a strange reaction to stopping taking St John%E2%80%99s Wort in 2008. I had the usual nerve zaps people associate with withdrawal, but they never died down and my nervous system was out of kilter for many, many months. Later, I noticed lumps on my back. I haven%E2%80%99t felt quite right since, to be honest.

A doctor friend of mine thinks I may have had an %E2%80%9Cadregernic storm%E2%80%9D after unknowingly mixing Hyperforin with certain foods.

Any opinions on this?

Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Urgent medical attention needed

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concern. The behavioral symptoms of adrenergic crisis are similar to those of an amphetamine, cocaine or caffeine overdose. Overstimulation of the central nervous system results in a state of rapid movements and unpredictable mental status. In such a case proper medical care is essential and that can only be administered after thoroughly checking and monitoring. You therefore need to visit a hospital without delay.
