I Had A Transvaginal Ultrasound Scan Yesterday. I Was On

Question: I had a transvaginal ultrasound scan yesterday. I was on cycle day 25. I usually have 27 to 30 day cycles. My endometrium was 3mm is this normal please?
Brief Answer:
The thickness of 3 mm of the endometrium is normal in perimenopause.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The endometrial thickness depends on many factors.
It may indicate that you are in the perimenopausal period.
Generally, the normal thickness of endometrium for perimenopausal women should be less than 5.0 mm.
So,in such a case the thickness of 3 mm is normal.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards!

Will I still have a period and what are other causes than perimenopause as other tests and symptoms rule out perimenopause
Brief Answer:
Follow up explained below in details.
Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,
Perimenopause is a process, so you will have other periods. Your menstrual cycles may lengthen or shorten in time.
There is no specific examination that can confirm that you are in perimenopause.
To rule out other conditions I suggest the following examinations:
-estrogen level
-LH and FSH level
-thyroid hormone levels
Other possible causes of thin endometrium are fibroids, which you have already ruled out through the ultrasound.
Hope it helps dear.
Kind regards,
Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi
