I Had An MRI For My Head Due To Persisting
Question: I had an MRI for my head due to persisting vertigo and dizziness, as well as paresthesias of face and chest, and the interpretation of my results were as follows: The pituitary sella is fairly deep and a rim of pituitary tissue is noted along its inferior aspect, suggesting an empty sella. Also mild prominence of peri-optic CFS spaces. These could be incidental findings or due to sequelae of previous or chronic raised ICP. Further clienical correclation suggested. Can you please let me know what all this means in layman terms. Thank you
I have been prescribed the following medication:
Escitalopram 10 mg (Cipralex) 1.5 tablets daily (started with .5 tablet Oct. 25, 2019 and gradually increased to 1.5 tablets on Dec. 17, 2019)
Aripiprazole 2 mg (Abilify) 1 tablet daily (Started January 6, 2020)

Brief Answer:
Explained below. Both may be incidental findings.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.
I have read your query and the MRI report that you uploaded.
Empty sella is the condition when the pituitary gland shrinks or becomes flattened.
The pituitary gland may shrink after surgery or after a tumor, after intracranial hypertension, in some cases, it is a congenital defect.
Mild prominence of peri-optic CFS spaces means that some fluid-filled spaces near optic pathways are more visible, or enlarged.
Together with empty sella, it means that you may have suffered from increased intracranial pressure, or both of them are just incidental findings if you did not have symptoms for increased intracranial pressure.
These drug prescriptions are for psychological issues.
