Question: I had an area of scar tissue near nipple of left breast left after a needle biopsy 26 years ago. The lesion has suddenly grown but there doesn't feel like there's a lump underneath. I'm 74 and quite overweight. Should I be alarmed?

Brief Answer:
Please give additional information and post clear photographs if possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
If the scar tissue grows suddenly after a long time of 26 years, precaution has to be taken to see whether the scar has undergone into change of hypertrophy or kelloid or undergone some changes that may need actions at earliest.
If there is no lump underneath then there is no need to be worried about.

Please give some additional information for me to assist you better:
Since when has the change occurred?
What are the changes? Size, color, hardness/softness, border of the scar?
Any itching or scaling?
What was the size of scar and what is the size now?

If possible post clear and focused photos as these sometimes help for on-the-spot diagnosis.

Awaiting.

Originally the area was the size of about half of the top of a pencil eraser. Now it is about double. The color is only slightly pinker and raised in the center and a little darker around the edges. Nothing extreme or dark. I first noticed 3-4 days ago. Not itchy or hard. Thank you for the quick response and information.

Brief Answer:
As detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your additional information.
Since there is no hardness or itching and the increase in size is only for 3-4 day you can surely wait and watch.
Increase in size can be of a concern as it was dormant for 26 years.
The change in color, raised in center and little darker around edges can be due to rubbing by clothes or so.
You can observe the progress and see your Doctor if there is any further progression.
Since there is no lump underneath, nothing much to worry about.

Take care and let me know if there is any further progression in any symptoms or observation.

With Regards.
