Question: I had an encounter with hiv 6 weeks ago. I immediately ( Within 24hrs) took PEP regimen of Insentress & Truvada. I tested negative with a 4th gen lab test after the regimen. Now today at 6 weeks I have developed a sore throat and a painful red dot on my nose bridge. How likely Is seroconversion? Are these likely signs of infection?

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms are unlikely Yourto be due to HIV infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome once again to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
After the entry of HIV organism inside one's body, it will take 72 hours to enter into a CD4 receptor cell (T4 lymphocyte). Once it enters into the nucleus of the cell the disease gets established and becomes irreversible. You started your PEP within 24 hours after the encounter. That too, you had a very much apt combination of ART drugs recommended by W.H.O and CDC. So there is no chance for HIV infection as if we consider that you had aninfection, it would have been aborted by PEP before the disease get established. So nothing to worry about HIV.
Sore throat can occur to anybody at any point of time due to bacterial or viral infections.Presence of sore throat or a painful papule over nasal bridge are not at all specific sins or symptoms for HIV infection. Consult a ENT specialist and get well.
At the sametime PEP has a ptotocol for follow up. The HIV test has to be repeated every month for 3 months and another one after 6 months. After seeing all the results nonreactive for HIV infection, then oly the individual can be declared as free from infection
