Please see the detailed answer below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I'm Dr. Branch,
Thanks for using 'Ask A Doctor' service.
Temporary loss of vision in one eye, or transient monocular visual loss, has many different causes, but most often it is from a blockage of the blood flow to your retina, optic nerve, or both. This can either be from a blood clot that goes to the artery to your eye, or from narrowing of the larger artery to your head (the carotid artery). This is similar to a stroke, and I would suspect your double vision is related to this as well.
I would recommend that you be seen urgently to be evaluated for any source of these symptoms. You will need to have your eye examined, and may need imaging of your brain and heart to figure out the cause. You may also need to be started on treatment, and in my opinion, the sooner you start the better.
If you can get in to see your doctor today, that would be good; if not, I would recommend going to the ER at the earliest, to make sure you prevent any greater or more permanent damage from taking place.
I hope that helps.
Please let me know if you have any other questions about any of that and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
