I Had My Thyroid Test Done Recently For T3, T4

Posted on Mon, 19 Oct 2020
Question: I had my Thyroid test done recently for T3, T4 and TSH. Below are the values.

T3 - 102 ng/dl

T4 - 7.3 µg/dl

TSH - 5.4 µIU/ml

I am also trying to conceive, since a couple of months.

Question -->

1. Could you please let me know if the T3, T4 and TSH levels are fine for conceiving or any medication is needed to bring them to normal levels for successful conceiving?

2. If yes, could you please prescribe them ?

3. Also, can the conceiving be tried during the medication or we need to wait for the medication to be over and then try for conceiving?

Brief Answer:
Borderline high TSH

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply:

1) Your thyroid profile seems fairly normal and TSH is in borderline. I would start my patients on Tab. Thyronorm 25 mcg once a day in morning on empty stomach. You can request for the same prescription from your doctor after consultation in person.

2) However this borderline high TSH is unlikely to be reason for infertility in you. There could be other causes which need to be evaluated.

3) You can try for conceiving while you are on medication.

4) Meanwhile get semen analysis of your husband to check sperm quality and quantity.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

Regards
