Question: I had my nail pulled off due to injury of the nail and nail fungus. The Doctor said it would take about 6 months for the nail to come back. I am keeping a bandaid on it and putting neosporin on it once a day. Will I get a normal nail once it grows back, and does the nail look ok so far especially near the cuticle area? Is there anything else I should do?

Brief Answer:
cuticle area healing is showing fine granulation tissue.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query with attached photo image and here is my advise.

* As per my surgical experience, the current status of nail bed is showing
fine healing with pink granulation tissue.

* The nail regrowth takes varying period of times depending upon individual
characteristics but on an average 3 - 4 months is required period.

* Additional precautions can be taken as

- balanced nutritious diet
- control of blood sugar
- avoiding trauma or direct compression
- multi vitamin and minerals for good healing
- continue neosporin application after antiseptic cleaning

Wish you best recovery.
Do feel free to discuss further regarding the same.

Thank you.
