I Had Porcelain Veneers Fitted In 2006 On My Eight
Question: I had porcelain veneers fitted in 2006 on my eight upper teeth. I understand that their "service life" is unpredictable, and varies from patient to patient based on lifestyle, dietary habits, hygiene, etc.
However, I am hoping to have some guidance as to what I can expect in the coming 5 years. Since fitting, I have had one veneer pop off (intact), after a crown was fitted over a molar. I believe my bite changed a bit and applied pressure to the veneer that popped off.
I am a non-smoker, however I do drink alcohol socially. I brush using an electric brush twice daily, and generally use a water flosser once daily.
Since fitting, I've often received feedback from hygienists about gum inflammation during cleaning. (There is also a considerable amount of blood). There are also some spaces between my teeth that always seem to bleed when I floss.
Optimistically, how much longer can I expect to go on with this set of veneers before replacement? What is the replacement process like? Is it generally less expensive because less preparation is necessary?
Second, anything else I can try to take better care of my gums?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Brief Answer:
Depends on the condition of the veneers and gums.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Porcelain veneers have a pretty good life, however, it depends on the precision with which it is done.
If the gums are bleeding then probably there is gum infection and can be due to food lodgement.
You can, however, get regular scaling done and use chlorohexidine gel to massage over gums.
Also, do warm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash gargles.
You can continue with the veneers till they are intact.
If they continue to dislodge then they can be replaced.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards
