Question: I had surgery last year for an absessed diverticulosis. I was in the hospital 3 weeks and took alot of Tylenol. I also have had recurrent uti's and have used a lot of Macrobid to prevent uti's and to treat uti's. I also developed microscopic colitis and have taken lomotil for the diarrhea. After my hospital stay my liver enzymes became elevated. I am now showing slight symptoms,my am urine is a little darker, and my abdomen feels tight. I have started drinking lemon juice every day. Of course i am not drinking any wine. But I only had a couple of glasses at times. How can I stop and improve the "chirrosis" if it has started? Am I going to develop full blown chrossis of the liver or can it be stopped and reversed?

Brief Answer:
Advice on how to prevent damage of the liver explained below in detail.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Cirrhosis is the late stage of fibrosis of the liver.

It is usually formed by scar tissue caused by frequent damage of the liver.

I suggest you to do some examinations to confirm the stage of cirrhosis.

The examinations that should be done are:
-a complete blood count
-bilirubin level, and liver enzyme level
-INR Level

Meanwhile, some advice that I can give to you are:
-Low sodium intake
-Eat a healthy diet
-Don't drink alcohol
-Avoid Ibuprofen
-Get vaccinated for hepatitis A and B, influenza, and pneumonia.

These measurements will prevent further damage of the liver.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further
