I Have 448000 Platelets Count And A Few Giant Platelets

What happens?
The platelet count is within normal range
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
Normal platelet count ranges between 1,50,000 to 4,50,000.
Thus, your platelet count is within normal biological range.
Platelet count can increase as a result of infection or inflammation.
The counts return back to normal once the infection and inflammation are treated.
Do you platelets remain in this range only or this is the first time that you have got platelet count on higher side of the range?
Presence of giant platelets are seen in conditions wherein immature platelets are released in peripheral blood.
Kindly, post your comments for further discussion.
Thanks and take care

I have taken a blood test previously on 04/05/2018 where my platelets count was 4.03 lakhs/cumm the range being (1.5-4.1).
But no gaint platelets at that time.
The platelet count is normal on previous occasion
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
The platelet counts are normal on previous occasional.
By definition, giant platelets are platelets having equal to that of red blood cells (RBCs).
There are very rare conditions associated with giat platelets and these conditions are usually associated with low platelet count.
In my experience the giant platelets mentioned often in reports are actually macro-platelets and not giant platelets. Macro-platelets are platelets which are slightly larger in size as compared to normal platelets.
Macro-platelets can be seen in viral infections. Macro-platelets do not indicate any disease process, infact they are indicative of regeneration of platelets in bone marrow.
You may follow up platelet count on regular basis.

Currently there is nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
Currently there is nothing to worry.
However, you can follow the platelet counts with regular platelet count check.
If the platelet count remains in this range, there is nothing to worry.
Any sudden increase in platelet count e.g. beyond 7-8 lakhs needs without any obvious cause will require specialist attention.
Thanks and take care
