I don’t know the size of the dilation. My doctor sent me home about an hour after the procedure and said I had a “split” in my esophagus and told me to only have liquids for a few days. I am still having a burning pain in my chest that’s worse when I drink anything. I am not in the hospital nor have I had a X-ray

I don’t have it. Can you tell me what a “split” is?
Brief Answer:
Answer given below
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
A "split" in the esophagus is tear/rupture/perforation in the esophagus. It can occur as a complication during esophageal dilatation procedure. Pain following the procedure is one of the symptoms. Chest xray or CT scan will help in confirming the diagnosis. Milder "split" will heal by itself. You probably had a mild "split".
