Brief Answer:
Medicines like betahistine can help.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service. Let me assure you that I have the requisite competence and experience to answer your query and therefore have taken it up.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Your dizziness could either be due to sensorineural degenerative changes or certain viral infections which can give rise to such presentations. In case of the latter (known as benign positional paroxysmal vertigo), it would possibly subside on its own. But if it is due to the former, it may be rather difficult to manage.

The organ of hearing lies in our inner ear (vestibulocochlear apparatus) and is also associated with the sense of balance. It could have an association with migraine-like headaches. Vestibulocochlear stabilizing agents like cinnarizine or betahistine might be needed. Please discuss with your treating physician whether they would be right for you.

I need to ask you if you have caught a cold. There is a thin tube on each side connecting between the inner throat and the middle ear (Eustachian tubes). The purpose of these tubes is to equalize the air pressure inside the middle ear cavity. Mucus block of these tubes leads to pressure imbalance leading to indirectly affecting the vestibulocochlear apparatus. Steam inhalation should help as water in form of vapor will reach deep inside. It would help in diluting the mucus, thus providing relief.

If it does not subside in 2-4 weeks, an audiometry would need to be done to understand the exact nature of the problem.

Let me know if I could help further.

I took a sinus medication in case ofinner ear pressure in the mrning and ginger tablets throughout the day and it subsided somewhat, but I was not able to enage in my normal activities and rested mst of the day as not toa ggravate it. The migraine has subsided and the dizziness is milder so far this morning.
are betahistimine and cinnarzine presctpions? are othere OTC substitutes? Also, can you descibe steam inhaltion in more detail? Would a pot of biling water be sufficient?

Brief Answer:
Ginger tablet and steam inhalation should provide significant relief.

Detailed Answer:
Pardon me to the inadvertent delay in replying.

Yes, a pot of boiling water would be sufficient for steam inhalation. Cannot comment on the homeopathic leg cramp formula. Betahistine and cinnarizine are prescription medicines with no OTC alternative.

Ginger tablet and steam inhalation should provide significant relief.
