Question: I have a 53 yo female patient who had 20 injections of botox for her migraines on 8-7-20. two days after the injection she became weak, got a rash in neck and shoulders. headache, and fatigue. So now on 8-24-20 she still has the bad headache, neck and shoulder pain, and extreme fatigue. I have to consider that she had an adverse reaction to the botox. So is there a chelation therapy for botox? Is there lab to run to see if this is indeed an allergic reaction? who does chelation therapy?

Brief Answer:
Allergic reaction and poisoning to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.

I have read your query.

It could have been an allergic reaction to botox injections.

In such a setting it is necessary to evaluate this possibility with cutaneous testing for allergy with GGP-BTA for Botox.

The chelators are available for botox but in case of an allergic reaction antiallergic treatment is indicated.

Chelation therapy is indicated in confirmed cases of toxicity.

So, in my opinion, the first step is to evaluate the possible allergic reaction.

Toxicity also may be assessed with neutron activation analysis of type A botulinum toxin.

Toxicologists are more familiar with chelation therapy.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
