I Have A Circumstance That Happened A Few Years Actually
At about 6 weeks I took a oraquick swab test and it was negative then repeated at 8 weeks,,10 weeks and finally at 90 days all negative. I then took 2 more one at 1 year after the incident all oraquick oral swab but the one at 1.5 years was a similar mouth swab but given at a clinic all negative.
I got blood work back and my cholesterol was high and triglycerides (401) was extremely high. I also looked and seen that high triglycerides is common with HIV infection......so today this has ramped up a concern that am possibly infected with hiv and the swab test do not work on me.
I have felt that my health has declined every year since this and I have no energy....this just makes me absolutely nervous .
Now I am experiencing symptoms of peripheral neuropathy and with a high Triglyceride do you think I am HIV positive?
You are definitely free of HIV.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in"Ask a Doctor" service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Based on your history, having a risky sexual intercourse with unknown partner, I think it is a right decision to get tested for HIV, but that does not mean that you are definitely infected.
You should know that negative results of oral swab HIV test after 6,8,10 weeks, 90 days, and specially 1 and 1.5 years from exposure are very accurate and conclusive.
So, this is a good news and you shouldn't worry because you are definitely free of HIV.
Furthermore, elevated triglycerides and peripheral neurapathy are not specific indicators related to HIV, but could be related even with other causes .
As well, I need to know that peripheral neuropathy is diagnosed from a neurologist(with ENG) or is just a symptom that you think that you have?
But, just for your peace of mind and to not think more about HIV I suggest to do a 4th generation HIV test .
Hope I have answered your query.
