Question: I have a continuous sensation in throat that something is stuck and sometimes have a choking sensation while sleeping is it due to GERD

GERD is one of the causes of globus pharyngeus.
It can also occur due to post nasal drip especially if you have sinusitis.
Sometimes it may be due to anxiety.
You can take Prilosec for relief.(presuming you do not have sinusitis or anxiety).

Is this anything serious and can it be cured permanently?

To prevent recurrence you need to change your life style -
1. Reduce weight if obese
2. Avoid alcohol and smoking ( if you have these habits)
3. Avoid coffee, citrus, chocolates, tomatoes, spicy food
4.Eat multiple smaller meals
5. Go to bed two hours after food
6. Lead a stress free life
