Question: I have a long oval lump on the bottom front side of my masseuse muscle. Could this be from clenching my teeth while I sleep? Should I worry?

Brief Answer:
May be mucous cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, it may be mucous cyst. It usually causes due to cheek biting or poor dental hygiene.

Usually it resolves on their own in one to 2 weeks. Don't try to open it or remove it. You can apply zytee gel(choline salicylate) in case of open sore. In case of pain, take tablet acetaminophen.

Still, Please let me know do you have dental infection, sharp tooth, tobacco addiction, lump is painful or painless?

In that case you may require biopsy of the lump after detailed medical examination and physician's opinion. Along with that maintain proper dental hygiene. Avoid hot and spicy foods. Avoid smoking if you have it.

Hope I have answered your query and let me know if I can assist you further... Thank you.

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale

It is painless and slightly movable. It feels like it is part of the masseter muscle.

Could it be enlarged muscle? It hasn’t gotten any bigger. I don’t have health insurance and would like to avoid a XXXXXXX if I can. How long can I wait to see if it changes at all?

Brief Answer:
I don't think it may be enlarged muscle.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

I don't think that it may be enlarged muscle as there is no history of injury or trauma and its movable.

As per your history, I think it may be mucous cyst and it usually resolves within one to two weeks if it's due to cheek biting which is usually most common cause.

So It would be better to consult with physician as early as possible.

Let me know I can assist you further... Thank you.

Dr Shyam Kale
