I Have A Lump In My Stomach Near My Belly

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Oct 2019
Question: I have a lump in my stomach near my belly bottom, I have had it for a good few years at least and it’s never caused me problems or got any bigger that I’ve noticed.

It ain’t sure, maybe sometimes there’s a slight discomfort if I press to hard, it’s soft then it becomes very hard when I press in.
My mums a nurse and said she thinks it’s just fat, as it’s not got any bigger in a good deal off time

Can I attach pics to this?

Brief Answer:
It could be Epigastric hernia (paraumbilical) or Lipoma

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I saw the pictures.

The first possibility is Epigastric (paraumbilical)hernia. Here, there will be a defect (hole) in the upper Abdomen above belly button. Fat will come from the Abdominal layers or inside the abdomen and will be seen as swelling above the belly button. It has to be repaired surgically.

Next possibility is a Fat swelling called Lipoma. It too has to be removed Surgically. There are no medicines for this.

A simple investigation like Ultrasound Abdomen will confirm the diagnosis.
Please consult a Surgeon and proceed further.

Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.

Wish you good health
Regards

Is it something I have to worry about right now? I’ve had it for a few years anyway, or can I mention it next time I see the doctor in a few weeks?

Can these operations be done under spinal surgery or local because I wouldn’t be put to sleep?

Brief Answer:
You can wait for a few weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As of now, it doesn't look like Emergency. So, you can wait for a few weeks.
I prefer to do Lipoma under Local anesthesia and Epigastric hernia under Spinal anesthesia.

The patient will not be put into sleep in both the procedures. So, not to worry.

Hope I answered your question
Regards
