I have had a tight feeling in my throat for a few weeks. Now hi have developed a clicking/popping sensation in my ears but also in my nasal area. I hav every bad anxiety and am worried this could be neurological.
I don’t have any trouble swallowing but I have worried myself into thinking this could be als - and have been reading a lot about bulbar als etc.
Other doctors have mentioned globus but I don’t see where ear and nasal symptoms happen with that.
I have a neurologist because I had a subarachnoid hemorrhage in 2017 - and I had an exam a couple of weeks ago and described my throat symptom but at that time I wasn’t having the nasal/ear symptoms
And I’m not sure about reflux because I don’t see where that causes nasal/ear symptoms. One gastro doctor mentioned if reflux (gerd) is bad enough it can cause nasal symptoms but I interpreted that to somehow be connected to what I read is “nasal regurgitation” in a neurological condition.
Plus I took Prilosec for about a week and it didn’t really help.

Hello do you think you will be able to help me?
Brief Answer:
I don't think it is ALS.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
I have read your query and understand your concerns.
I don't see a reason to think about ALS in your case, your symptoms may be explained by benign conditions such as sinusitis, a viral infection, GERD, etc.
You may be examined by your Neurologist with the scope to peace your mind, since you suffer from health anxiety.
You were examined by several Doctors and, as I see, no one suspected something about ALS, so, this is another reassuring fact.
In my opinion, you should get evaluated by an ENT Doctor who can diagnose correctly your issues with the throat and ear.
Hope I helped you.
Feel free to ask if you have further questions.

Thank you. I have very severe health anxiety. And I am not eating or sleeping thinking these symptoms are als. So thank you for the reassurance.
My neurologist did examine me a couple of weeks ago but at that time I wasn’t having the clicking/popping feeling in my nasal/ear areas.
Also is it normal to have a scalloped tongue? I looking I see I have that. That’s has nothing to do with atrophy hopefully?
It’s only indents I’m the side looks like my where my teeth press up against my tongue.....

I just an interpreting the feeling in my throat and now nasal area to mean “muscle weakness” - throat and tongue palate (this is what I’m reading about als)
Am I misinterpreting what I’m reading. I isn’t have trouble swallowing food or liquids. I don it is a slight strain in my voice but I am also swallowing constantly because of the tight feeling.

Also I have a prescription for lexapro - would this be a good medication to take for anxiety/ocd behaviors?.....

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
A scalloped tongue is not atrophy, in your case, it may be linked to nutritional deficiencies since you do not eat well.
Inflammatory processes of the throat may also be linked to the scalloped tongue.
Only throat tightness does not mean ALS.
I think that Lexapro will help you with your anxiety.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
