Question: I have a normal BM but then about 30 minutes later, without any urge, or alert, my bowels are loose (as a goose). No changes of late in diet or exercise or anything. This has been occurring regularly of late, i.e., in the past few months. Almost every time after a normal BM. Val

Brief Answer:
Can be recurrent untreated gastroenteritis.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The symptoms you are describing are mostly suggestive of gastroenteritis which is the infection of the intestine. It can be bacterial or protozoal.

Stool analysis and culture sensitivity analysis are required to confirm the diagnosis. Management is primarily with antibiotics (usually a combination of Ciprofloxacin 500mg twice daily and Metronidazole 400mg thrice daily for 7 days) for which you will need a prescription from your local physician.

As of now Follow soft diet. BRAT (Banana, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast) diet will be easier on your tummy.

You can also take Imodium 4mg thrice daily to control loose stools and then as and when required.

Hope this answers your query
