I Have A Pacemaker. From Time To Time I Felt

default
Posted on Sat, 20 Apr 2019
Question: I have a pacemaker. From time to time I felt a fluttering around the device. However starting yesterday, the fluttering has increased. My life is somewhat stressful, my wife is in a rehab facility recovering from a fall, and I am alone at home. There is no pain. Is this something that needs immediate attention? Thank you. Detailed Answer:
Hello Robert!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to possible cardiac arrhythmia (atrial fibrillation).

For this reason, as the fluttering has increased during the last day,I would recommend going to the ER for a physical exam, a resting ECG and some tests (complete blood count, blood electrolytes, thyroid hormone levels).

Performing an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring may be needed in order to investigate for possible paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, which may not be registered in a simple resting ECG.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

Wishing all the best,
