I Have A Question About Lymph Nodes. I Can Feel
Question: I have a question about lymph nodes. I can feel lymph nodes in various parts of my neck - my cervical nodes and the ones near my collarbone. They are small and move freely. I understand this is normal, but I am curious if it's normal to be able to feel them. I have to really dig in order to do it, but I can find them once I do. I am thin and my neck and collarbone are very thin, so I am wondering if this is normal.
Brief Answer:
Normal in thin built
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
yes, most of times, lymph nodes can be felt in thin built people.
If you find any node which is tender and more than 2 cm in size, it is necessary then to get a Fine needle aspiration cytology test done to rule out inflammation or lymphoma.
Hope, I answered your query.
Wish you good health.
regards,

Thank you - I do have one lymph node that is obviously swollen. It's near my upper jaw below my ear. It is the same node that swelled up when I had strep. I don't think I have strep now but I have had a sore throat and a respiratory infection for the past ten days. The node isn't 2 cm - maybe 1.5, but it is obvious. You can see it's enlarged without even feeling it. It was tender for a while but now it seems to be less tender. My sore throat has also abated somewhat. For now, I am assuming that it is a reaction to my sore throat, but I'm curious how long I should wait for it to go down. The lymph node on the other side of my face is not as swollen (from what I can tell) but it is similarly tender.
Brief Answer:
Could be due to sore throat
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
Yes, that could be due to sore throat. It will subside on its own within 1 or 2 weeks.
If it does not regress then get an FNAC done.
