Question: I have a question about my companion. He was treated for multiple myeloma bone marrow cancer and now has undergone radiation removal for a very small .lung cancer...he also has kidney failure and is currently on Dialysis 2 times a week.

My Question is for myself...I am very concerned if any of these types of cancers can become Contagious or passed on to a romantic partner through kissing...... sex....OR.... intimacy? Please I need a very educated informed explanation to these questions.I did notice my mouth became very sore inside while kissing....so this realy concearns me!??Thank you!

Brief Answer:
It might be altered flora

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Multiple myeloma or any other cancer is not considered contagious.
The treatment of cancer makes the patient more prone to infections and these infections maybe contagious. Mostly viral infections and candida may overgrow.
Another explanation of soreness could be your own stress that may lower your immunity.
Third explanation could be raised inflammatory response in his mouth, that may have lead to some inflammation (harmless) in you.
There may be infections alongwith cancer in lung or ENT region.

Yes you may take your precautions while being by his side during his bad times.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
