Question: I have a really hard cough that is almost like vomiting. I've had it for a couple years, and it seems to be getting worse. I'm not sure if it's genetic or something I'm exposing myself to.

Chronic cough with expectoration is commonly seen with bronchiectasis, bronchitis, tuberculosis, etc. I don't think it is genetic.

So better to consult pulmonologist in person and get done clinical examination of the respiratory system, chest x-ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).

The chest x-ray is needed for bronchiectasis and tuberculosis... PFT is a must for the diagnosis of bronchitis.

So better to consult pulmonologists and discuss all these.
